I've used OpenVPN and connecting to my shared folders with the IP address of my server works absolutely fine. Could you describe what you've tried? What error do you get?

Well, my shared folders simply don't show up on my phone when I try to search for SMB folders. I've already enabled sharing on the folders i desire. Oh i forgot to mention, i use OpenVPN cloud

You'll probably have to enter the ip address of the server manually, auto discovery will not work over a VPN
