I want to add another ssd in my system would a SN850 NVMe run at full speed if I use this adapter thing: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FN3YZ8P/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_H2QJEKM0KBCXT6M9H9EK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Also does my motherboard need to be compatible with it? I know it has that slot in it (PCI-Express x4 card slot), anything else I need to check?

Is it a x4 slot or is it a x16 slot configured as x4?  Reason being the physically x16 slots tend to share CPU lanes and would have your GPU bandwidth if used.  Sometimes the bottom x16 slot (if you have three) will be on the chipset, which is what you want, sometimes it will be on the CPU and again halve the lanes on the GPU.  It really depends on the motherboard.

Either way the NVMe drive will run full speed, but your GPU might not.
