Hello, I currently have a build with a i910900k, a MSI 3090 suprim x, and a lian li galahad 360 mm aio cooler, and I want to switch up this furnace of a CPU because the temps are honestly too irritating (spent over a year working with professionals and cannot get to any good solution for the temps).

Whats a good CPU for gaming that is known to be cool, and hopefully wouldn’t impact the performance harshly? Thank you.

  • The AMD Ryzen 9 5900X is the equivalent AMD CPU which is better in most areas and will run cooler.
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5950X if you want to spend a bunch more though I am not sure if it is worth it.
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5800X if you want to be a bit more on the budget side of high-end I suppose.

If course also means you need a different motherboard but good B550 motherboards aren't that expensive. For example the Gigabyte Aorus elite v2 would be a decent choice. With a bit of luck your RAM is compatible so no need to spend there.

There aren't many subjects that benefit from binary takes on them in a discussion.

I forgot to mention, my motherboard is an MSI Z590 Gaming ace, my Ram is corsair vengence.

Doesn't say a whole lot as that is just a product category in the Corsair linup with a tons of different RAM modules. So if if you'd switch to AMD you'd need to look up the exact type you got to see if it is compatible (chances are it is).

Anyway, as I said the Ryzen 9 5900X should give you similar and in most cases better performance while running cooler.  If you want to stick with Intel because you don't want to switch motherboard (and possibly ram) I don't have a good suggestion to be honest.

Finally, you could try underclocking your current CPU. Will get you mostly the same performance while running less hot.

12600K. Mine runs much cooler than my 9900K did and I haven’t noticed any drop in performance with a 3080. If after a while you find the 12600K lacking then you can always drop a 12700K in there. You’d need a motherboard upgrade but you can use the same RAM.
