so i backed up my pc to do a fresh install to fix some pc problems. i used aomei backupper to backup all my drives to an external hdd and then wiped my os. once i had reinstalled windows i installed aomei and mounted the drives virtually in windows to access the data. preoblem i keep running into is that my user profile from the backup i dont have permission to access and if i try it says access denied. i have tried giuving myself permissions through the security tab but when i try and add my account to permissions i get a message that says ( an error occurred while applying security information to: (file name) the media is write protected. i have also tried using Q-Dir and i can then access the data but when i try and copy it off i get a BSOD ( page fault in non paged area. what failed; ammntdrv.sys.  i cant use diskpart to remove write protection because its a mounted disk not a physical one. i really need help ive been trying this for 4 days and have made no progress so far.

Have you tried giving yourself ownership of the entire drive, or was it just the basic UAC permissions? If you reinstalled windows, then there is a chance that you formatted the entire drive and erased all partitions. With that, you will have to run a full system recovery with Recuva. If not, and the partition is there, then I'd make sure that aomei hasn't encrypted your data with the backup. Keep in mind that you created an entirely new computer, so if you encrpyted it, you will need the password / keys

I tried giving myself ownership over the whole drive and I got the same error. I have done a fresh windows install and I did format the drive my data was on

So yea, you erased it. Well, allocated it. I recommend Recuva and another hard drive of equal or bigger size. It will take a while and that's all that you can do after a format
