Best place to put intake fan?

Dm1239
Go to solution Solved by Hairless Monkey Boy,

If you are adding just one fan to the front, put it in the middle position. That way the airflow will reach both CPU and GPU.

Edit:

Looking at the pictures, it seems the case has a solid front panel. Consequently, a single front fan is more likely to circulate internal hot air through the remaining empty fan holes than it is to pull in fresh air. Instead of getting a single Noctua fan, consider getting three Arctic P12s to fill out the front. That way you'll be getting more fresh air into the case.

Not sure if this is the correct subforum, but i'm just wondering where the best place would be to put an intake fan, as my case didn't include one for some reason. currently i plan on using Noctua redux-1700 120mm.

Motherboard: ASUS B550 Plus

Case: GameMax ARGB (No bottom fan mounts)

If it's just one, in the middle slot. I'd recommend you try getting a 2nd one and putting them in the middle and at the bottom slot, respectively. PSU like fresh air too!

Id also recommend at LEAST 2 fans in the front, but id say put them in the middle and top, as the PSU got its own fan, and most PSUs are closed of on the connector side so an extra fan in the front most likely wont help the PSU at all. In the top position it gives the CPU cooler fresh air instead of using the GPUs hot air.

It looks like you already have an outtake fan. Will you be replacing that one as well? Better for aesthetics and a noctua would beat any other fan, so there would be positive air pressure in the system.

Presuming the PSU is drawing from the case bottom and not from the case interior, consider placing the front intake fan in the lower position. This should push air across the bottom of the motherboard. It should then be drawn up by the GPU and CPU cooler then drawn out by the rear fan.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

The case also has a thing where it moves the excess air from the psu's intake fan and pushes it into the interior (according to case manufacturer), not sure if it makes much difference though

probably not, since noctua fans are so cheap i might consider it, but the case is still fresh 1.5 weeks old so it should be fine

sounds like a good idea, would my motherboard have enough fan sockets though? also would arctic p12 be better than noctuas?

They are nearly equivalent, but at a significantly cheaper price, so you can buy more of them with the same money, and more is better.

Even if it doesn't you can get yourself a 1 to 3 splitter like this:
