Hey everyone, it's been quite a while since I posted on the forum but I was looking to see if anyone had some experience with x99 memory OC as I've got a new system that I'm putting together for my GF and I wanted to do some tuning with memory settings to get the most out of the system. I purchased 2 2x8 kits of Crucial Ballistix RGB 3600 cl16 (rev e.) since those are known to be pretty easy on memory controllers. I'm not actually expecting 3600 out of a haswell x99 chip but I wanted to get a good start for tuning the timings. Any help is appreciated!

Edit: Mobo is Gigabyte x99-UDP4

I'm guessing from the lack of responses that few have any experience in x99 OC

No I saw the post, just been at work.

You'd test the memory straps see which one works best. Start low, work your way up.

From my research I'd expect to hit a wall around 2933-3200 correct? I won't have everything in till next week, but I haven't seen anything on how rev e. behaves with x99, can it typically handle tight timings at those kinds of frequencies?

Yeah, 3200mhz would be a goal. Won't know how the IMC does till you try it honestly. It'll do ok 2667mhz if you can pull off a Cas12.

These chips... same deal as ddr4 and 5. Some did better on ddr3 then ddr4.

I figure the 1660 v3 would be about the best IMC quality when it comes to the haswell x99 chips, i figure they would bin the xeons a bit better to prevent any sensitive operations from failing, or I could be completely wrong and this could be just an off the shelf 5960x with ECC enabled, good ole silicon lottery here I come.

I'll be posting my results in this thread when I get the chance to tinker

Well a v4 would be of the newest revision. But I've seen 3200mhz, just for benching though. Not sure if they can pull that off daily or not honestly.

I'm going with haswell-e as opposed to a broadwell-e xeon since the v3 chips can be overclocked, I'm gonna do a modest OC of about 4.2-4.3 depending on how good of a bin it is, trying to keep it to 1.25v or below
