Screen going black

I am having a weird graphical glitch and I do not know the source. Every once in a while, if I jiggle the cord (bump the table, etc.) connecting my gpu to my monitor the screen goes black. At first I thought no biggie cable must have come loose. Then today I was playing CIV 6 and saw some weird almost barcode-like markings on my monitor. So I figured the cable was loose and jiggled it. Screen went black and the PC restarted.  The restart has my suspicions raised and made me worried something was up with my evga 3080. That cost me a fortune and months of work, so any advice would be welcome.

Have you tried a different cable?

Naw I only have the one cable. I bought all components for this pc new about 3 months ago though. Seems like a quick failure for the cable if that is the problem

Sometimes you just get a dud. Worth getting another cable to test with tho since it is a lot cheaper than a GPU, and the fact that moving the cable caused the issue kinda points to that being the issue.

True. You ever have a pc restart with a bad cable? That part makes me more worried than anything

I've never had that happen, but hopefully it's just a miswire in the cable or something that didn't cause any permanent damage to either your PC or your monitor. If you're using DisplayPort it could also be that, since it doesn't take too kindly to being hot plugged sometimes so maybe that's what's causing the restarts.

Oh that might be worth looking into. Maybe I did plug into the display port. Thanks!
