I've got an Asus Rog Maximus Code XI in Oppbevaring. I can't for the life of me get all 4 GPUs to run at the same time. However, I think it's motherboard related.

Top PCIEx16 slot has a 2070. Middle slot has a 1080. Both of these GPUs work just fine and are recognized by GPUz, Windows, F@H and Afterburner. My issues are with the 1070 and the other 1080.

Top PCIE slot, x1. This works with a 1x riser with the 1070. If I have the 2nd 1080 in it, it's not recognized.

x16_3. I can't get either GPU to be recognized in this. I have tried multiple 1x risers and a Phanteks x16 riser. Currently using the Phanteks.

If I swap the 1080s, either one works in x16_2 as with the 1070.

Am I missing a BIOS setting somewhere, or are 4 just not possible on this motherboard?

Edit: also not using any NVME drives. Raid is unplugged for troubleshooting. GPUs and a boot sata SSD only right now.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Why is the 5800x so hot?

Does the 2070 work in slot 3, the rest above?

That is the one thing I haven't tried. It's held in partially by the hard drive cage. Friction fit.

Since I'd be taking that out anyways, I'm going to decase this build and move it over the the frame I've got for it. It'll make troubleshooting easier in the long run and is what I intended to do anyways. Give me a bit and I'll report back.

@ShrimpBrime

Depends on which program you ask.

Spoiler

No risers. Nothing in the 1x slot. 1080, 1080, 2070

Interestingly enough, MSI afterburner is effecting fan curves on all three GPUs even though it's not seeing all of them?

Edit:

Same thing as spoiler, but 1070 works on 1x slot with a riser.

Which just makes my issue being a 1080, 1070 and 2070 being disabled in F@H. Any ideas why the 2070 going to that slot made everything work well? I did also do a CMOS clear while I had the motherboard out of the case, so something could have been borked there I guess.

Wonder if After burner sees it all as SLI maybe, even though it's not...

That's possible. It sees a 3rd unrecognized GPU. Gives no details on it.

I am going to try to DDU and reinstall NVIDIA drivers. I'll force PCIE to gen 3 while I'm restarting. GPUz finds CUDA on that 1080 and 1070 and Cuda/rtx on the 2070.

Might be cause of the generation mix of GPUs, always seems to give the most issues.

I figured swapping to gen 3 was quicker and easier than DDU. Swapped BIOS to force gen 3 and now everything is playing correctly.

Not sure what in this actually fixed everything. Moved 2070 to slot 16_3, cleared CMOS, forced PCIE to Gen 3, and moved from a case to a mining rig.

Ah there you go.

If it works, then don't ask how. Just let it work 🙂
