Given the current situation of parts I would be curious to see some ideas for upgrade paths for keeping an older gpu like 10 series and maybe ram and psu. Things to consider how to maximize your bang for the buck and what performance could maybe look like. So, for my current rig I have an evga GeForce gtx 1080 ti ftw3. msi z270 gaming pro carbon with a 7700k (lapped delided and switched to liquid metal), 3200 MHz corsair vengeance 32 gbs (2X16gbs), corsair rm1000i gold + psu. so I’m thinking of save the gpu, psu, and ram and upgrading the cpu and Mobo. also, my rig is using a full custom loop.  The reason I am looking to upgrade is that in some more recent titles I have notice that I am becoming more cpu bound or just straight up having lower frames despite appearing to be gpu bound (riva tuner statistics for my data points). I have spent some time messing around with overclocking my cpu. Anything past 4.6 all core is questionable.  I can run 4.8 all core but its a ticking time bomb until it bluescreens every time I shut down the computer.  Might be 1 day might be 1 month.  I would be upgrading the cpu block and some new tubing for the upgrade.

Tbh I’m strongly considering AMD either the 5600x 5800x or 5900x. 12th gen is way too expensive right now and I also am not upgrading to windows 11 just yet.  I want to wait til it’s a bit more stable.  However I’m probably still out til end of February or March til I will have saved up the funds to upgrade.  I game, record, and light video editing, as well as just normal stuff word, web browsing etc.  I am kinda thinking of killing some more time and seeing if AMD releases new processors and/or AM5 socket.

If you can wait, then wait. There’s always something new (and faster) around the corner. Having said that, if you can’t wait go with Ryzen or 12th gen Intel.
