Whenever I do anything with photos or windows photo viewer, my pc becomes incredibly slow. I've got a reasonably well speced machine with windows 7 and this is the first time I've had this kind of problem. Even when viewing images that are on the ssd are really slow. I've done several virus scans and they're all fine.

What should I do now?

Install Picasa 3.9 and use it's photo viewer. It's far better than Windows' one. I'm using it because Windows Photo Viewer is stuffed on my system. But I have enjoyed using the Picasa photo viewer. Tis really good.

Another great bare bones fast image reader: IrfanView  Ref.: http://www.irfanview.com/

Get the plugins if you want to view other media in IrfanView. Easy to view a folder by clicking

the arrow buttons or using PgUp and PgDwn.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.

I think he wants to be able to preview photos and stuff without neccesarily opening them in a program such as IrfranView.

It can also generate a thumbnail view.

It can also generate a thumbnail view.

But thumbnail previews usually aren't very big. You always want to view an image larger than a thumbnail preview.

I use Windows Essentials - Photo Gallery

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-live/essentials

It uses the GPU the process the image, so unless you have a GPU or GPU driver problem, you should have no problem using it.

It also supports color profiles, if you use those with your monitor. In addition, with Camera Codec Pack, you can view RAW image files of a long list of DSLR cameras: http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=26829
