funny crash

HI guys my comp is and ASUS z97 pro mb with a core I 5 4460 and a 5700 amd gpu. It crashed today the screen got all static like a 1970 tv screen with partial wallpaper flickering mouse was able to hit restart when it came back on the monitor could not read input any idea what this was?

It's clear something made the video signal go all wonky which leads me to believe it's tied to the GPU somehow. Try using a different cable with a different port on the back of the GPU and while you're at it even a different screen if possible and see what happens. Make sure the old cable and screen is unplugged from your computer while you try this. I'd give a full list of troubleshooting steps but it'd get too complicated so just reply with the results and I can try to assist further from there.

Thank you after sitting for 30 mins off it booted fine may be an over heat problem thank you for the help I am upgrading hopefully on cyber monday deals and will upgrade fans too. Will be keeping GPU but everything else will be new.
