New HDD

I figure this could be post here as well since I'm looking for a new HDD too, so which HDD would you guys suggested ? as cheap as possible but still a good one, >= 2TB

This is what happen to my external HDD http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/138838-broken-external-hdd/ , so if anyone could answer those 2 question for me I would be very happy :D I dont really expected Quesion 1 to be answered and I'm going to take it to a shop anyway, but what about question 2?  Do external HDD that usually connected by USB like that have some kind of files in it that make it only able to run like an USB and cant run as an internal HDD? (meaning I have to format it before I can use it as internal HDD, provided if it's dont have any problem and the problem is with the other stuff and not the HDD itself?) ?

A Seagate Barracude 2TB is cheap and good so that gets my vote
