Hey there people.. New here.

So I have asked this question in a few other places and still waiting for a reply for the most part. Those places that have replied usually give me the same old response... Why did you do this.. Why did you do that, Never a straight answer.
So I'm asking here.. Bit more professional I hope !

So my Mrs has been pestering me to swap TV's. Mine was a standard 55" 1080p, Hers is a 43" 4K HDR. She only watches TV and I thought **** it why not.
Her TV channels with HD aren't exactly true HD anyway so 1080p would be fine.. Where as I could make full use of 4K and HDR.

Anyway... I tried Star Wars: Battlefront II the other day and the game started up in 3840 x 2160 with HDR enabled. This TV does not support HDR at 60Hz, Only 30Hz or lower. Any other resolution below 4K with any refresh rate supports HDR which is nice. I only have a 5700 XT and wont be playing all games at 4K anyway. Temps get a little on the toasty side.

I knew the game would be toasty at 4K so I threw it in 1440p, I instantly got some strange flickering black screen that lasted about 2 mins.
After a hard reset, as that was the only thing I could do, Keyboard commands wouldn't work, I come back to this strange 2048 x 1536 resolution that is now a permanent resident of my display settings and 2560 x 1440p has officially left the list ! With this resolution the aspect ratio is stuck at 4:3 or something similar. either way it's a broken mess now.
I have tried everything in my power to rectify this issue.. I have been using Windows for many many years and pretty darn good at solving my own issues, including hardware issues, But this.. Completely baffles me.

I have included an image of my display options.. I have used CRU to add 2560 x 1440 back to the list as you can see, but it just doesn't feel official. Some of my games that I run at 1440p just don't seem to run or look like they used to. I used to run AMD's Virtual Super Resolution (VSR) on my old 55" 1080p upscaled to 1440p and I could swear that it ran and looked better than this CRU 1440p. Jaggies are all back and game just looks poor quality.

I have reinstalled Windows 10 as I really needed to. Started to get a little bloated and sluggish.
All latest Drivers.
Latest board BIOS.

Could this be a VBIOS issue ?
Has anyone experienced anything like this in the past and if so did you find a solution.

OFC 1440P  would look bad on 4k....

it doesnt scale evenly

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

Yes I know, But I'd rather not play certain games at 4K and bouncing off 100c +- on the regular. So 1440p is good enough. And to be quite fair.. 1440p on this 4K looked pretty darn good !
If it means not having to use VSR anymore with it's blurry 1440p then so be it. Was good, But not as good as 1440p on a 4K TV.

How about addressing the issue, temps, instead of using a workaround.

your gpu gets too hot.

so, how about you fix that.

plus 1080p will undoubtedly look better without good scaling

Addressing the issue ??
The issue is that 1440p has been removed from my system !

(All I want to know is if anyone out there has had a similar experience and if there is any chance of getting 1440p back). It's clearly not an OS issue. So it's either a VBIOS issue or simply my GPU has knacked itself !
I have tried several HDMI cables. Same issue.

1440p was natively supported when I first turned on the TV. I don't want to play at 1080p on this TV as it's super blurry and just looks like dog ****.
I'm stuck with either 1080p or 4K.

But 1440p is on the ssytem.

that 1440p that you added will be the same thing as any other 1440p (unless its 1440p thats not 16:9 aspect)

How do you not know its not a os issue?

1080p on this tv would be clearer than 1080p on your 1080p 55 inch. Thats just how pixel densitys work.

the 1080p image will be smaller and thus clearer. each 1080p pixel will take up 4 4k pixels, and each 4k pixel being less than half the length and width of a 1080p pixel on your old tv, i can show you the math.

also make sure you quote me or I dont get a notification of a reply

I get what you're saying.. And no I don't need you to do the math hehe.

It can't be an OS issue as I have now reinstalled windows again.. Still having the same issue.
I just can't figure out how it's gone. I've been using windows since 95 and never had an issue I couldn't resolve.. Especially now with how simple and idiot proof 10 is, Albeit more advanced, but still much more simple.

And yes I believe you when you say that 1080p would be good on this 4K.. But I assure you that something has happened as it's very blurry. No so much that you cannot play a game, It just looks... I don't know.. Just bad.

could you take a photo of both, 1440p and 1080p , and then borrow your wife's tv and take 1080p and 1440p photos on it?
