RTX 3060

I5 6600k @ 4.2Ghz

I recently upgraded my gpu, knowing that my cpu would be bottlenecked a bit. But now whenever i play a cpu intensive game and my gpu isn't running 100% but my cpu is, i get insane stutters.

Forza Horizon 5:

I get 100 - 120 FPS. with stutters to 90 fps.

So i limit my framerate to 60 fps and it stutters down to 55.

I don't get why when my old gpu always ran at 100%, the frames would go down gradually in more intense situations. But now that my cpu is the bottleneck it stutters down wich makes the game unplayable.

I have tried reverting my overclock but the stuttering was even worse.

I have also updated all my drivers.

This is called a CPU bottleneck, not a GPU bottleneck.

Basically, your CPU can't handle the frames the GPU is sending to it so the GPU lowers its load to try and sync up with the CPU. Your CPU is old and is 100% your limiting factor. You never want your CPU at 100% in any games, if it is, then you get exactly what you feel and see. You will need to upgrade your CPU and/or platform to achieve proper experience.

I tought you either had a GPU bottleneck or a CPU bottleneck. But no one ever told me a cpu bottleneck would cause games to become unplayable??

My cpu might be a bit older but it still really powerfull with the right overclock. i was gonna bump it up to 4.5 Ghz

Unfortunately, overclocking it will not help in this case. It may a little bit, but you will still have a lot of stutters and hitches because of it. 4c CPUs started to show there age and become problematic with the 1070 being the first GPU to really start stressing and pushing them to the max and causing the problems, and has only gotten worse from there. Your test option would be to try and find a cheap like i7 6700 or 7700 to give you at least 4cores 8 threads.

Damm, didn't expect to have to upgrade my cpu to... Would an i5 9600k not be sufficient aswell?

It does have 2 more cores, but still only 6 threads, so it could still show signs of trouble. With it though you would still need to do a Motherboard upgrade with it as well since with your current platform, it only supports 6th and 7th gen CPUs.

I might just move to team red for a new cpu, wich ones would you recommend to pair up with the 3060? A Compatible motherboard goes around 80€ but don't know it that is sufficient for overclocking.

An r5 3600 or R5 5600x would be the best choices.
