Very Slow 4K Write Speeds: Teamgroup

That IS odd, but it may be why the Team Group drives are the price they are?  4k writes are important, small files random locations.  Which Windows and programs use.

I'd be concerned.  I seriously doubt it's your config, you run solid rigs.

Do you notice it at all?  Benchmarks are one thing, but anything feel sluggish at all?

its empty right now, lol. haven't tried using it for anything other than benchmark.

it's not so heavily discounted that it brought up any red flags. The ADATA performs well and is typically around $99. The MP33 was $73

I hate using userbenchmark for anything, but it's useful to see when exact parts are not working right.

Seems my other drives are fine, except the teamgroup one is way slower than everyone else's

UPDATE:

It is showing up as removable media for some reason. Changed it to enable write-caching, and performance is in-line with what it should be now.

Also, seems like a MOBO bios issue

Just can't get the remove hardware icon to go away 😞

Originally, this started as a this vs. that cheap game drive topic, however, see this post:

Anyone have any ideas why this random write is so bad?

Hi guys, trying to decide which one of these to get for an additional game drive. They both seem pretty similar, same brand, dram-less, SLC cache, TLC PCIE3 NVME drives.

$170 Teampgroup MP33 2tb

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08GM984PF

$180 T-Force Cardea Zero Z330 2tb

https://www.amazon.com/TEAMGROUP-T-FORCE-Graphene-Internal-TM8FP8002T0C311/dp/B08TLSM85F

I think one is just the "gaming" branded one ($10 more) but I can't be sure. Anyone got input on this?

Interesting...was just looking for the cheapest 2tb drive I could get. That one looks like it's in a different class, much faster and random reads (however much that's worth) + DRAM cache.

hmmmm

Yeah, figured that DRAM may help slightly but unsure it's real world impact.

If you just want to be sure of a good drive, the WD Blue SATA (2.5 and M.2) is $179.

Interestingly enough, I purchased the Teamgroup MP33 1tb a few days ago for my daughter as she only has a 480gb sata SSD and is running out of space.

I had it on my desk, lazy to install. So I was researching possibly getting a 2tb version for myself as well since it was pretty cheap.

ANYWAY, I forgot I got her a cheap motherboard that doesn't even HAVE an m.2 slot. doh

so I plugged the MP33 into my system....and the results are a bit weird. I knew it was a slower drive, but 4k writes are terrible. I don't know if it's my configuration, but maybe you know?

Left to right:

Teamgroup MP33 1tb, ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1tb, Samsung 860 Evo 1tb (SATA)

821479180_drivespeed.thumb.png.63825fca5fc17b3e8f484a53825268b8.png

The random reads are within the expectation, but the random 4k writes are like, wow almost hard drive level. It is not what I have seen reported in benchmarks. I'm wondering if I have something configured wrong in my computer. Maybe I need to update my motherboard driver.
