Programming Laptop (including for Game-making)

Hello,

 

I was wondering if anyone can tell me a good gaming laptop on a budget. I was thinking m1 air, 16gb, 1tb ssd macbook (I would do 512gb but I feel like that's not enough for gaming).

 

I just want a good laptop that lasts forever and can do everything I need to do, which is make games and program. In my experience, mac lasts longer but I don't know if that's true.

Have you considered an ultrabook and building a PC for gaming?

Gaming laptops have come a long ways but are still inferior to ultrabooks for day to day use. At first it seems like a good idea as it's all you need wrapped up in a portable package but to game you'll be using a mouse and have to be plugged in to a power source. Then at that point you'll be at a desk anyways and the whole premise of a gaming laptop is thrown out the window. You're also paying more for components that are usually binned/downclocked for mobile use. Having a 144hz screen also seems nice until you realize how it eats through battery life

Just keeping this here as a I've never considered that. I don't really look at ultrabooks. My problem is I'm in the Navy and I have to travel a lot for work, so I can't get a desktop. I also have to put it away a lot. I'm guessing you're not saying I should build a laptop.
