Recently started looking into VR headsets and was wondering if anyone had any advice? I've tried to be extensive with the information sorry if some is irrelevant.

  • I've only used VR once and would only play at most a hour or so a day so I don't want to spend over 700 GBP but could go up to 1100 GBP.
  • I'm competitive in FPS games but not sure how much I'll get into the competitive side of VR. (Only have at most a few hours a day if that.)
  • I have a RTX 3070 & a Ryzen 5600x.
  • Currently preferring the HP reverb G2, however, the tracking issues were putting me off purchasing.
  • A higher refresh rate interests me more than resolution. Currently I use a 1080p 240hz monitor and that's just fine for me.
  • I'm looking at buying new but I'm familiar with using Facebook market place & Ebay but wasn't sure if there's any higher risks with VR. (I've bought a reballed GPU before, don't want a similar experience.)

Thank you for your advice in advance.

If you're considering the HP, get a Valve Index kit. it had a 120Hz and 144 Hz (experimental) mode. Plus the hand tracking is unapparelled. Its expensive, but worth it.

Resolution matters a bit more when the screen is basically bolted to your eyeballs. That's why the tiny Vive screen still looks pixelated at its 1080x1200 per eye. Keeping the refresh rate / FPS above ~90 Hz/FPS is still most important though.

My vote would also be the Index. Heard the most overall good stuff about it aside from its slight fragility.

project cambria by oculus....hang tight

I would like to say whats your budget? because some vr headsets cost upwards of 2 grand and are alot better than the g2..I say if your budget is under 600 go for the oculus quest 2, even if you hate facebook. I own the quest 1 and 2 and for the quest 2 I made a dummy facebook account and everything ported fine and works well, no screen door effect..and it supports 120hz..fov is ok..its alot more useful having a standalone headset if you want to watch movies or can't stand the cables as they do indeed get in the way sometimes...and the inside out tracking is really well done...but if your budget is above 600 i'd say the index by valve but its been out for a while and i'd wait a bit for the next gen headsets to arrive.no sense in investing in old tech

I think I'll wait on purchasing.

I'm comfortable spending 600gbp however, the tracking issues of the G2 has put me off completely.

I'm willing to spend a grand on the valve index but the age of the headset makes me hesitant.

With that said, I'm now considering buying the quest 2 and gifting it to my girlfriend who doesn't have a PC when I upgrade.
