I have an ASUS A-15 TUFF laptop and I recently went over a friends house and brought it with me but when I tried to boot up any game even launchers for games it was extremely laggy with low load time and a lot of input delay. This issue only appeared in launchers and games everything else functioned normally. After some digging and benchmark tests it said there was no GPU. I have a 1660 ti and I have never had any issues with it I was using the same computer to play Valorant 3 hours prior at my own house and i had not messed with any settings or downloads since then. I couldn't fix the issue so I gave up and left it until I was home to fix. When I returned home  I hooked up everything and pugged in my monitors and ran the benchmark test. This time results were normal but as soon as I unplug the monitors it again claims missing GPU. I can play everything fine as long as I have a monitor plugged in. I have never heard of an issue like this and was wondering if I could get anyone's input on the situation. Any other solutions I will test and add to the list and see if any of them work.

Things ive tried:

  • Re installing drivers (Multiple times)
  • Manually setting my graphics to my GPU and not automatic (I have internal graphics for my CPU_
  • Disabling through device settings my internal graphics
  • Virus scan (No viruses)

I don't game on a laptop, so I have no personal experience. I found this thread on Reddit, and it sounds exactly like what you're referring to. I believe I've heard Linus mention this frame buffering thing that the dGPU (discrete) does with the iGPU (integrated). I don't think dust is the issue.

The thread is worth looking at, but I'll go ahead and post the supposed solution here.

Just use Nvidia control panel or right click the games exe to tell it you want to use the Nvidia card before starting and it'll work fine.
