On Pop!_OS and most of the newb friendly distros, no, that'll already be setup. Though Pop!_OS does have some very different keybindings than Windows and most newb distros, like ALT+F4 being something else entirely as well as Super+L and a whole bunch of other things. Volume keys should be the same as any other distro though. If you have, say, a volume key and the F# keys are a smaller print on the key, then all that stuff is controlled by your BIOS and the Fn key and not the OS, all the OS sees are dedicated volume keys being pressed or the F# keys being pressed depending on what your Fn key does. You can play around with this in the live USB environment before deciding to install the OS.

i would like to download linux but i dont want to use a vm.

It's possible to dual boot Linux with Windows,

Did you choose a distro yet?

What do you imagine the process is to go from an ISO file to Linux being installed? We can go from there.

That's correct. What did you mean by "will it work stright after i download it"?

From my experience, this can be hit and miss.

I currently run Ubuntu 20.04 on a current Dell XPS and it worked perfectly right out of the box.

It does standby upon closing the lid and all the FN keys work.

The only issue I had was the fingerprint sensor, but I installed and set up Howdy and now I can choose between facial recognition or fingerprint.

I've had debian on an older HP laptop a couple of years ago and that was no experience for the weak and squeamish, because I had to set up and tweak pretty much every little bit.
