Hello,

after I tried to install a Coral M.2 Accelerator Dual Edge TPU I realized that not only the length can be different of the M.2 but also the connection itself.

Reading just now that I need a M.2-2230-D3-E slot, I was wondering if there are any USB-Cases for external use with a Key-E Connector, or any kind of adapterboard/PCI-Card?

Does it strictly have to be a Key E Connector or are there any interchangable ones.

Greetings from Germany.

edit:

After some searching I found: https://www.reichelt.de/de/en/adapter-m-2-key-m-male-m-2-key-e-slot-delock-65831-p195392.html?GROUPID=6173&START=0&OFFSET=16&SID=9444d753f130d4a349de38b894557f9e7d435d09273ec0a243ccc&LANGUAGE=EN&&r=1

This seems like exactly what I would need, right?

M2 is a headache. Sadly, M2 E-Key adapter is very hard to come by, but maybe, just maybe, there's something you can try. M2 E-Key slot can be found on most modern laptops and some desktop motherboard. If you don't mind losing the Wi-Fi of your system, you can try using those and see.

Anyway, like I said, this thing is quite rare, but I found something. I'm not sure if it can work beyond Wi-Fi module, though, so it may not work for your case.

https://cablematic.com/en/products/pcie-card-to-ngff-m2-e-key-with-usb-port-MS08800/ This thing only support M2 E-key card. It uses standard PCI-e slot found on computer desktop motherboard

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274936985532 This thing only support E-key card. It is a M2 M-key to M2 E-key converter. So... Well, this is not really suitable for laptop.

https://www.tp-link.com/my/home-networking/high-power-adapter/archer-t5e/ I do find some manufacturer to manufactured this type of M2 E-key to PCI-e for their Wi-Fi cards. Maybe you can try one of those?

Hope these helps.

Regards,

Chiyawa

Do note: These adapters are meant for Wi-Fi cards. It may not work for other products. But seeing it is just an adapter which convert the pin-outs, I think it may work for your cases.

I couldn't find USB case with M2 E-Key, though... But if you like, you can use the M2 M-Key to M2 E-Key and buy a M2 SSD enclosure. Not sure if it'll work.

Thanks for your effort. I ordered the adapter linked in my edit. I have a spare M.2 SSD enclosure lying around but I have my doubts with the height restrictions.

Yeah, you won't be able to close the case.

Anyway, good luck.
