New Video Editing Rig for 4K-6K Footage (need urgent recommendations in a scalper market)

Budget (including currency): minimum of $1,500 - maximum of $3,000.00 USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: No gaming. Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects. Strictly video editing and reading large video files from external drives. Need something that will be a reliable, studio optimized PC.

MORE DETAILS:

--------------------------------------------------------------

  • Make/Model: Macbook Pro 2017
  • Processor: 2.9 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
  • Memory: 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3

How many monitors do you plan to use? Do you plan to add more monitors in the future?

  • Would like 2, but 1 is sufficient

Do you also need to purchase peripherals such as keyboards and mice as well as monitors etc?

  • Yes, I need keyboard and mouse as well. As long as it works.

Can you list programs you specifically use repeatedly in your work? Can you list any programs you'd like to use?

  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Adobe After Effects
  • *Blender (maybe)

What drives do you work with? Do you have to use an adapter on your laptop to connect them? What sort of adapter?

  • USB-C to USB compatibility

How much storage, at a minimum, do you need on your PC? How much storage do you want?

  • 1TB SSD for programs. As much as possible to store specific projects, 4k-6k footage, or editing files.

Not quite sure what the pictures are for but I'd recommend buying a used HP z640, z840 workstation and buying a Radeon Pro w6800, that sort of thing. Or an RTX A6000/A4000 if that is in your budget and you need the features it offers. You'd want at least 12 cores but I'd recommend 16+.

5950x was chosen as video encoding for many formats is still CPU based so having basically the best desktop cpu in the market is a no brainer.

128GB of ram is in the system because from personal experience Adobe After Effects is a ram hog (able to use well in excess of 100GB on a daily basis) and to scrub high bitrate footage you will need as much ram as you can.

There are 2x 1TB NVMe ssds. one of them is for your boot drive and programs, other should be set up as you adobe media cache drive with no programs running off it. This allows adobe premiere and after effects to have a fast and reliable access to a standalone cache drive.

There is only 1x 4TB HDD in the system as if you need more than a couple drives you should be looking into purchasing a NAS with redundancy.

RTX 3060 was chosen because firstly CUDA, you can use that for effects acceleration in After Effects. Secondly, Cycles renderer in Blender is alot better with CUDA than CPU rendering.

Keyboard and mouse not included. They are highly personal. I would suggest decent quality wireless, but user / site may differ.

PSU is sufficient to support another RTX 3060 for better blender cycles performance.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
