Budget (including currency): ~1500$ CAD (not including the GPU)

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I want to get back to PC Gaming -> Valheim, Farcry6 (FPS), Age of Empire IV and MMOs like New World. Maybe MS Flight Simulator 2020.

Other details: I am using a pair of 1080p Freesyncs monitors.

So, I was lucky enough to grab a RX 6800 XT from the AMD Direct buy queue. I want to build a nice computer around this GPU to do some good gaming @ 1080p. Here is what I've got so far. I am still debating with myself which CPU to get, 5600x or 5800x or even the 5900x. Need some cooling advice if I go with someting better then 5600x.

What do you guys think?

This depends on your use case. Do you multitask a lot? Run a lot of programs in background? Multiple monitors? If you tend to have a lot of programs running in the background, use discord/other voice chat program, chrome in background and have multiple monitors, I would go with the 5900X. If you are more on dual monitors, running only discord/voice chat program and chrome, 5800X will be good enough. Single monitor, gaming only? 5600X is fine. Although with the current price difference of CPU's, I would go with the max CPU you can afford so you don't need to mess with it for awhile.

I use scythe mugen 5 for my 5800X. It seems to be enough for gaming don't get about 75C normally. If you want better thermals though, I would go with Noctua NH-U15 or Be quiet! Dark Rock 4 Pro. I would also go with those two with a 5900X.

You can go with a B550 Tomahawk to save money if you want, but this is a good mobo. There is also an X570S variant that has an updated BIOS for Ryzen 5000 and doesn't have chipset fan (quieter).

There are faster gen. 4 drives, but for about 100 more so that's up to you if you want a better one. I would recommend stick to gen 3 because there is no benefit to gen 4 drives for games yet. I would also go with 2TB (games are big now). Here are some recommendations:

ADATA XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro

Silicon Power P34A80

PNY CS2130

Pretty much it. 5800x seems to be on the sweet spot, price wise..

I just got confirmation that I can get a NZXT Kraken X63 (AIO) for free from a friend. Did not want to go that route, but at this price... 🙂 Question though, do we need to ever change the liquid inside those?

OK, i'll have to look it up. I was under the impression that you could not use a PCIe 4.0 GPU with a M.2 storage 4.0 at the same time for the B550 chipset.

I was looking at AMD's recomandations over there -> https://www.amd.com/en/chipsets/x570#Storage-Drives Did not pay too much attention since M.2 drive will be so fast already 🙂

Thanks for the feedback!

I think you may need to top up the liquid inside after awhile (few years), but I'm not 100% sure. Double check with someone like Jaystwocents (youtuber). He's pretty knowledgeable with liquid AIO's and custom water cooling.

B550 support gen 4 only on the top m.2 slot and the first 16x pcie slot. X570 supports gen 4 everywhere. So if you plan to use multiple gen 4 drives in the future stick with x570.

Yea the drive you chose is fine for the price.
