Black screen no boot

Bought a brand HP Omen laptop a few months ago

ryzen 7

16GB DDR4

512GB M.2

Nvidia RTX 3060

i bought a set of PNY XLR8 gaming ram 16x2 for 32GB total to upgrade it.

when I put the 32GB in and press the power button all I get is a black screen, no HP logo, no RGB on the keyboard just a light on the power button. If I put the old ram back it it works fine. HP Support tells me I shouldn’t have issues the new ram is compatible. Also it shouldn’t be bad chips the PNY ram is retail new I didn’t buy second hand ram.

It sounds like your ram is dead unfortunately. As a test, you could try 1 stick of each and see if it works. that way you can still boot and you can check what ram is being detected. As it's new memory you should be able to get it replaced for free.

How can brand new Retail Ram already be dead? It was brand new? Unopened retail? Never experienced such a thing

Just like buying a brand new car and it having something broken. It happens.  You can make 100 identical things and 1 or 2 are absolutely perfect and then 1 or 2 are bad.  It's just manufacturing errors that can happen.

I’ve been in the computer geek craze since windows 3.1, I’ve never seen in my experience two ram chips sitting side by side on a box retail store shelf both bad…..this is a first for me. Guess I’ll just return and refund.
