New HDD does not showing up in BIOS and disk manager

EnviL

Hi, so i bought a new Segate Barracuda 2Tb for my new pc build- R5 5600x, ASUS TUF B550 pro (wifi), 16 gb ram 3600mhz, gtx 980 4gb, Samsung ssd 980 evo 500gb, WD Blue SN550 1Tb for photos and videos. In my MB box was 2 cables 6gb/s for SATA connection (i tried both), i connected hdd to power and sata on MB, loadet up the pc, but nothing showep up in disk manager or BIOS either. I have tried to reconnect cable to different SATA ´holes´ on MB (there are 6 of them) and the second cable, but it was same every time and nothing showed up. At the moment the HDD is outside of case (connected to the pc) and its running. There are vibrations and little noises like it may be, but disk not showing up. Can please someone help me with this issue, i have no other idea what i can do, thanks!

Try using AOMEI Partition Assistant to see if it is recognized.  If so, you may need to partition the drive and then format the drive.  Just an idea.  I use that software for everything concerning setting up a drive.  And it's FREE.  Just don't forget to click the APPLY button in between the steps.  It's in the upper left corner of the screen.

Good Luck.

Sounds like a dead HDD. Maybe you ought to RMA it for another one. This could be the HDD controller faulty or something wrong.

Anyway, if you can, try using an external USB 3.5 inch HDD enclosure and see if the drive can be read.

Well, it was an idea.  Sorry that it didn't work out.  Hope you can get the problem figured out.  Like Chiyawa said, it may very well be a dead drive.  Good Luck.

I've had disks show up on Linux that nothing I could do would cause them to show up while running Windows, maybe try burning Ubuntu to a usb drive, booting to that usb, and seeing if the drive is detected on that live OS version of Ubuntu. How to: https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows#1-overview

GParted is normally the tool I use in such cases or for managing drives on Linux in general, it's very powerful and has detected drives that tools / programs on Windows couldn't before; https://gparted.org/

Best of luck 🙂

  • Desktop! 2012 Mac Pro, Radeon RX 570 8GB, macOS Monterrey via OCLP.
  • Laptop! 2015 MacBook Pro quad core i7 with dedicated gpu
  • Other: PineBook Pro, PowerBook G4, misc chromebook, NextBook Flexx 11, LGV20 w/ LineageOS, and a few other things

I don't know if this will work, but it's a quick try (and useful/time saving in the future).

Try opening Command Prompt as Admin.  Type "DISKPART" then "list disk."  If it shows up there, try writing "select disk [insert disk #]" and "clean" (wipes drive).  Then go back into Disk Management and see if it's there to set up.  I have had this before with installing used hard drives not immediately recognized by the system.

Also, have you tried a different SATA cable?  Is it possible to test the HDD in another PC?

Seagate has an own Software to check its Seagate drive, try that. And when you start your PC, can you hear something or even strange noises from your drive?

Is the HDD connected to sata 5 or 6?

M2_2 shares bandwidth with SATA6G_56. When M.2_2 is populated, SATA6G_56 will be disabled.
