Hi guys.

Got a question regarding, casting from google chrome to tv without the actual Chrome cast module but by Wifi.

So my question is.
When i click the 3 dots on the page and i choose cast and i cast to my TV.

What IP is being used for the stream?
Is it my PC thats uploading to the TV and my TV downloads from my PC?

Or is the TV actually streaming from the site directly?
Im using VPN on my PC and i want to know what IP the TV is using when im casting to it.

Any one have some information on this?

Probably depends on the TV. On mine I can only cast specific sites that way e.g. youtube which means it's just telling the TV's youtube app to go play that video without involving the PC.

How Chromecast Works | HowStuffWorks

The PC is a DIAL client, the chromecast is a DIAL server.
The PC works like a remote control, so the app will run on the chromecast and it will keep running if the client is turned off.

When i turn off my pc, the tv stops also. And i tried streaming on American Hulu and it worked. But when i switched vpn off, i could not stream that site anymore. So not sure if that means, but im thinking the vpn is somehow going to the tv? And not sure what the DIAL stuff means.

So that suggests it goes through the PC. As mentioned will depend on the TV, with mine I can't cast a tab or the screen from Chrome, only video sites.

The routers website shows all devices in the network, including your tv.

Maybe you find it in your TV's menu too.

Your PC will be sending the display contents to the TV on your local network, nothing going out.

Yeah but i dont think i can acces router menu from tv while the stream is going on. It will probably shut it down and use regular wifi.

You can even use your smart phone.

Look at the mobile phones IP address in the settings and replace the last number with 1.
For example: 192.168.20.1

Then you open your browser and type it to the URL textfield.

That will open your router's website, where you can log in and see all the devices.

Or maybe you frind your TV's IP somewhere in it's network settings.
