Sodimm Problems

Recently I bought a new/first laptop it comes with 16 gig of memory. 8 of them are soldered on the board and the other 8 on a slot. I'm wanting to change the 8 gig slot to a 32 or a 16 gig sodimm. I don't know the risk that come with this change and possible giving up dual-channel memory

As long as it is from the same manufacturer and runs at same speeds/latency, you should be fine.
