Hello guys,

I am currently planning to build a NAS for home use. Mainly backups of photos, home videos, and other personal files but also a bit of plex and other uses. I am looking to stay around a budget of 650$ no including the hard drives (other then a small boot drive for the OS and maybe cache) in the budget. By the way the hard drive would be 3 X 4TB WD reds in raid 5.

what that I have in mind (and the prices here in Israel):

  • Case: Node 804 -  180$ , would very much be happy for other ideas. seems to feet my needs but I am not 100% sure about that one.
  • CPU: Intel Pentium Gold G6405 - 75$
  • MOBO: Gigabyte B560M DS3H Micro ATX or similar - all cost around 135$, I know they have only 4 SATA ports but if I want to expend later I might as well buy a raid controller or similar item.
  • RAM: Kingston Fury Beast DDR4 2666MHz 2x4GB - 85$, seems to be good.
  • PSU: Corsair CV450 80+ Bronze 450W - 75$
  • Cooling: be quiet! CPU Cooling Pure Rock Slim - 30$

Seem to me that should cover my needs well. If there is anything you can suggest I would more then welcome any insights as this is my first NAS.

Thank you all,

Zack
