Weird assignments...

So I study Music Technology and Production at University and was recently set the task of creating a soundscape, I was required to record everyday objects such as elastic bands and paper, then I had to process them to make a soundscape, by far this is the strangest thing I have created to date... What have you guys been set at school or university where you have just thought "how on earth is this going to benefit me?"
