Ahoy hoy! First time poster, long time Linus viewer.

Recently I've been thinking a lot about building my own desktop PC. It's been nothing but laptops for me since 2003, I've been using them mostly for audio video rendering.

Currently I use a Dell XPS L702X, while this thing has handled everything I've thrown at it I can't help but worry it will explode one day from my non-stop use. It basically turns into a friggin' frying pan when rendering a video!

Now I'm no wizard, I know if I have to ask this I probably shouldn't be building my own PC but I'd like to give me a shot and get an answer from someone that isn't a know-it-all shop owner.

Here is what I want:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4570 Haswell 3.2Ghz

CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 11 LP

Motherboard: Asus H61M-A LGA1155

Memory: G.Skill Aegis Ultra low voltage 2x8GB DDR3 1600Mhz

GPU: Asus GTX750Ti OC 2GB GDDR5

HDD: Seagate 2TB Barracuda Sata III

PSU: Antec Neo Eco 520C 520W Active PFC 12cm PSU

So my question is, am I basically building the same thing as my Dell XPS or will this perform better? Even slightly better would be good enough.

Budget? Use? Location? Peripherals or monitor needed? OS needed?

Yes, of course. Monitor and peripherals I have covered as well as OS.

And it would be used for the same thing as I use my Dell XPS for, video and audio rendering.

As for the motherboard, what is wrong with it? Why a 1150?

Alright.

You need an 1150 motherboard because that's what the CPU is compatible with.

a 1150 cpu wont work on a 1155 mobo
