Okay, so I'm upgrading my current rig. (made a thread here)

So my problem is that I'm using an AMD Phenom II X6 1055T @ 2.8 GHz (most likely gonna OC it to 4 GHz) and I'm thinking of getting a GTX 770 but from what I've been told the CPU will bottleneck it.

So my question is this:

Will getting a older GPU increase the overall performance, and if that's the case which would you recommend ?

Or will a bottlenecked 770 still fare better ?

There's also the thing that my current rig is pretty old and I don't have the budget to change my CPU too, so getting a 770 will "future proof" my rig so I can change my CPU later without having to get a newer GPU too...

(Also if this isn't the right place to post this I'm sorry, but since it's primarily a GPU question I thought posting it here would get the fastest/best answers)

I'm planning to buy my stuff this week so a quick answer would be awesome :)

Bottleneck dumbed down:

>Have a dual core

>Buy a 780 Ti

>the dual core limits it only 1000MHz

>so you will not get that 2026Mhz from the 780 Ti.. only 1000Mhz

So find out the best GPU for your CPU then buy it or else upgrade your cpu

EDIT: if you cannot afford a better CPU might as well get a 750 Ti

EDIT 2: OC your CPU to at least 3.1 Ghz and get 580/7950/7870(The Best Recommendation to not bottleneck)

Personally what i would do is get a better cpu right now and deal with the current gpu for a bit while saving up for a better card in a bit from now. In all reality youll either end up with an 880/870 if you go that route or end up with a dirt cheap 700 series.. either way you would be coming out much further ahead. If that isnt an option then i would get a 750ti or a 760 and oc your current cpu as much as you can while keeping it within reasonable thermals.

So, I've been looking around and if I buy a 750Ti I'd have enough money left to fit an AMD FX-8350 Black Edition (4 GHz) into the budget, so how does that sound ?

Would I be able to do that and maybe get a more powerful GPU later without that CPU bottlenecking it in the foreseeable future ?

Also, with my current budget building an Intel machine would be too expensive.

Or rather I'd be able to get a motherboard, CPU, a new PSU and some more RAM, but then I'd have to keep my old GTX 275, which is my main problem right now...

EDIT: After looking at the AMD CPU's it would seem that I can get the AMD FX-8320 Black Edition (3.5 GHz) a bit cheaper, and if 8 cores are a bit overkill I could get the AMD FX-6350 Black Edition (4.2 GHz) instead, if ofc they won't be bottlenecking future GPU upgrades too much.
