Hi all!

wdym a custom psu?

you failed at the tag @Mr-G-Manif it's not in an orange button, it doesn't work.

Most OEMs (HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc.) don't use ATX PSUs.  They get supplies custom made for their boxes.

I haven't decided which model yet @tkitch
I also might get a 500w psu as well

Go for optiplexes that have sandy or ivy bridge cpus, wikipedia has a list of optiplexes you can look at

If you get a core 2 optiplex youll want the optiplexes with 31, 33, or 35 chipset if you can get ahold of 4gb ddr2 sticks for 8gb ram, if you cant then youll be locked with the crappier 41, 43, and 45 chipsets, with the q45 basically being a g43 aka fsb walled to ~420 and g41 fsb walled to ~380

If you get a sandy or ivy optiplex then just leave the cpu alone unless if its an i3, in that case youll wanna get a xeon e3 1220 v2 aka an i5 but cheaper or anything other than the 1220 and 1225 which are basically i7 but cheaper, if you want to put a k cpu in youll prob have to do some voltmodding and adding some cooling to the vrm if youd like to overclock (via throttlestop since dells like basically all oems have garbage bioses)

Just a quick correction DDR2 (Consumer A.K.A the stuff that the system needs) never came in 4gb standards. The highest capacity consumer ddr2 module was only 2gb (you can get them from amazon for cheap still) but that means that if you want 8gb of ram you need to have a board that supports 8gb ram and get a board with4 slots.  But remember that lga 775 cpus didn't have the memory controller onboard.  In layman's terms that means that some LGA 775 (core 2) boards could even use ddr3 memory (like this one https://tinyurl.com/ddr3lga775)
