I posted here about a month ago about my PC not booting. I went through all of the steps to test the power supply and the fan turned on during the paperclip test. I did an RMA for my motherboard and can confirm that the serial numbers are different (I took pictures of everything before I sent it in and the stickers on the board are different).

I'm still having the same problem: No indicator lights on the motherboard, no response to the power button, and no fan on the power supply. I do not know where to go from here. Any input would be appreciated.

For reference, this is my current build.

Can you outline what troubleshooting steps you've tried so far beyond the paperclip test?

Start simple... (not being dismissive of things you may or may not have tried, but I've seen these simple things get overlooked)

1. Unplug, verify, and re-plug all PSU connections

2. Make sure the case front I/O and power button connections are plugged in

3. Make sure the PSU is switched on

4. Make sure the motherboard standoffs are installed so it's not grounding out on the case

If you are truly still getting no power to the board then either the new board is also bad, or the PSU is bad.

Be sure to QUOTE or TAG me in your reply so I see it!

Sure. I should note first of all I built most of this PC, minus the CPU in 2020 and used and AMD Ryzen 3rd Gen processor so I could update the BIOS to work with the 5000 series (whichever I got, I was agnostic to the 5600-5950x). I was able to play through a few games with it no problem.

Because I was waiting on a CPU, I unplugged it and left it covered in a plastic sheet since February. I managed to get the 5950x and installed it, but it wouldn't boot. At all. I already ran through the steps outlined in this forum's README, but still no joy.

I replaced the old CPU that I had been using before and experienced the same issue. I had made a presumption that the computer would boot up even before I installed the new CPU, but I'm wondering if the power supply or motherboard tend to fail after being powered on then left without any source of electricity for a long time.

I also took that power supply and plugged it into another PC I have that works and I was unable to turn that machine on either.

I should also note that during this process I essentially took the machine apart and put it back together again a couple of times and I can see no faulty connections or anything of the sort.

This suggests that your power supply is broken.

That's more or less where I started before posting here, but from what I've seen, if you pass the paperclip test, it's always followed by "then something else is the problem". I'm trying to suss out any other possibilities before I go through another lengthy RMA process like I did for the motherboard.

You tried to power supply in a different, working computer and it made that computer not work.
