Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I'm looking for an upgrade from these components: 

Motherboard: Asus P9X79

GPU: Asus Strix GTX 970 
CPU: Intel i7-3820

RAM: 4x4 GB DDR3 1600 mHz

No peripherals needed. I play at 1920x1080 at 60 Hz. I wanted an upgrade since my PC is struggling a bit with newer titles such as Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

All you can do is upgrade the cpu to a 1650 v2, an overclockable 6 core xeon, and yes you will need to overclock it to extract its full potential cause these old cpus dont turbo high

 

Then i suggest overclocking the sht out of your gtx 970
