I'm thinking of building a new rig with a fairly flexible budget (nothing that would be ridiculous like 3.5k+ or anything like that) and I'm debating about which gpu setup to run. I'll mainly be using my computer for gaming and video editing, watching movies and stuff like Netflix. However, it'd be nice to join the LTT folding team so I can really contribute to the Internet (I don't really understand what folding is, but slick and Linus seem to be praising he LTT folding team, so it seems like it's for a good cause

My setup will most likely be a Rampage 4 formula with a 3930k, 840 (pro or non-pro) and 16GB 2133MHz gskill trident ram and a PB278Q 1440p monitor (will I need more gpu ram? Like 3-4gb+?)

My gpu options are 2/3 660ti's in sli, or 2/3 670s in sli, I've read excellent reviews about EVGA and Asus gpus, but I haven't been able decide on one or the other. I've read that EVGA is supposedly better for water cooling, but not any details on why. I'm going to be air cooling my system for a month or two and upgrading to watercooling afterwards when I can get my hands on a couple of radiators and some good fans.

*however, with the next generation of Nvidia gpu's coming out in the next while, should I wait a bit and build a new rig in the future? I'm satisfied with my pc atm and it can still run the games I run and render in an acceptable period of time. Any help is appreciated and I apologize for accidently posting an unfinished thread

*I'm on my phone so I'm accidently hitting enter and submitting the topic repeatedly lol

670 only 2 way. i was looking into 3 and 4 way sli but the research i pulled up showed that it was a waist of money at anything over 2 way. also maybe wait for the 770 should hopefully come out in june. it is rumored to be a better 680

I remember coming across a chart while I was researching 3way+ sli that said generally, one can expect 175-190% performance with 2 way sli in a well optimized game, whereas 3way sli will have something like 240-250% performance in a well optimized game. Is this true, and if you know why, could you explain to me why sli doesn't scale nearly as well after adding a 3rd card?

Also, thanks for the information about the upcoming 770, I'll look into it more over the next while, but I *think* I remember seeing on a tech review channel (can't remember username, but it was 2 guys from Canada sitting at their desk with their laptops in front of them) and they said the upcoming 780 will be based on the gk110 architecture like the titan, and so the performance might be something like a titan, do you know anything about this that you could give me some advice?

I have only seen things saying 2 way is the most you should go. and the 780 it sounds like i know about the same as you. its a stripped down titan with 5 gb ram instead of the titans 6 also higher bandwidth i think

Also umm if (might just wait for 700 series, but hypothetical question) I could get 2 670s, which board partner card would be the simplest for watercooling? I've heard an Asus top card is among the fastest of 670s, but the non reference pcb design would make finding a full cover gpu block more than complicated than an EVGA FTW card (which has a 680 pcb sooo it might be faster?), but a ftw card already has a backplate, so would I have to remove it to install a gpu full cover block?

i know evga has water blocks for all there odd pcb cards and otherwise a regular one is fine i guess i dont water cool

Alright, thanks a lot. I think I've made my decision to wait a little bit for the next generation of Nvidia gpu's and build my new rig then. You get aaaaaall the Internets LOL

YAY i always wanted internets. glad to help i choose to wait for not only 700 series but also ivy bridge-E
