Budget (including currency): its free

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: steam games

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):   so my uncle has a power supply but i don't know if the cables are the same on all power supply so tell me if you can change your power supply out without needing new cables. and if so how can i tell what socket is on my power thingy so i can test thing out

You can't swap cables between power supplies, they are not guaranteed to be compatible, and might damage and destroy your components

Don't cross cables between power supplies. If it's a (semi-)modular power supply and he doesn't have the cables, then you'll either have to source the cables that came with that power supply or else you're SOL.

It's entirely possible that I misinterpreted/misread your topic and/or question. This happens more often than I care to admit. Apologies in advance.
