issue with windows Focus.

Go to solution Solved by bravetriforcer,

I FIXED IT. It was one of the recent security updates breaking this stuff for me. I only uninstalled the general update before, but uninstalling the latest security update fixed the problem entirely on my computer. And the update seemed to reinstall itself anyway without breaking things, so it might be possible that Windows just screwed up installing the update for both of us?

If you come back to this thread try going to Windows Update > View Update History > Uninstall Updates > Right clicking and uninstalling whatever your newest Windows Security update is. The one I have right now is KB5004237.

Hello, I'm having what I presume is just one problem. I'm running Windows 10 and my mouse if a G502 hero.

Firstly when playing a full screen game and I alt tab out the game, it will have one of two reactions when i alt tab back in. It will either just minimize the game again (unless I double click very fast and click inside the game) or it will not give control until I click in the game.

The other places it's manifesting is the Task view and notifications. When I click to open them, when I move the mouse away it will close the window after about a second regardless if I clicked on something or not.

After two days of (admittedly poor googling skills) searching I have only really found a redit post that is saying it has a similar issue, but had only one other post saying "me too". Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this?

I'm one of those "Yeah I got the problem too" guys. But my question is do you have your Taskbar set to automatically hide when you don't use it? I have had these EXACT same problems after updating Windows a couple days ago, when undoing the update didn't fix the issue. When I turned off Auto-Hide for the Taskbar, some of the problems got fixed. I still needed to click on a game after alt-tabbing to it (and Alt-tab always starts on the window I am ON when I want to switch to the game, instead of highlighting the next window over, if that makes sense. Basically it needs to be told "No tab to the NEXT thing" when it's a game) or clicking on it from the Taskbar. And sometimes trying to switch from a game and back to it just breaks the game entirely, it REFUSES to come back to the front, sometimes crashes outright, and one time it forced Persona 5 Strikers to change to Windowed mode. But I can now just switch between non-game windows without needing to make double sure they're in focus.

At least from what I can tell, I think MS broke Taskbar and Alt-Tab in the most subtle but infuriating ways. And if you have your taskbar set to hide when unused, turning that off only half fixes it.

Uninstalled the last security update and yeah it seems to be running properly now. Thank you very much.

Hey, I got the same issue here, I removed KB5005033 > issue fixed, reinstalled security update > issue is back 😑

I'm not super comfortable not having latest security updates installed but at least the workaround provided by @bravetriforcer works, thanks for sharing.

EDIT: found a workaround which doesn't require the uninstall of latest security updates > https://www.windowslatest.com/2021/08/17/windows-10-kb5005033-is-causing-new-issues-for-some-users/
