So given some issues I'm having, I'm debating on updating my system a bit.

Currently I'm running 2 2TB Seagate Barracudas in a RAID 0 format.(Mostly setup for gaming and basic storage.)

One of them though is apparently on its way out after only a year and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on some HDDs that might be better suited for such a setup.

well any ssd for a start if you wanted it to be fast.

a mechanical hdd in raid 0 will be slower than most basic ssd's on sata 2

Yeah, an SSD is what I have my OS and a few other things setup on.

I know it's slower but I really didn't have much of an issue with that before. I'll eventually get an SSD or two for other purposes but for now I'm mostly looking at mechanicals.

well in that case theres no such hard drive that is specifically geared for just raid 0. You can pretty much use whatever drive you want. I'd say this time around get something with a warranty should it die again within a year.

Yeah, that was the plan. The one that died is thankfully still under warranty, was just wondering if there was anything better than what I was using.

All HDDs fail eventually, so it's really just a matter of time and/or quality of the warranty included with an HDD that matters. Keep in mind that most HDD warranties do not include data recovery, so if a drive fails in a RAID 0, your data is gone - gone - gone.

I'd strongly recommend looking at buying something like a 1TB or 2TB Crucial MX500 SATA SSD if you're looking for a budget option / don't need NVMe speeds for what you're doing. https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX500-NAND-SATA-Internal/dp/B003J5JB12/

As @emosun noted, even a single SATA based SSD is going to provide around double the real-world speeds compared to buying and RAIDing more HDDs. And as always, just be sure you've got a backup of any files you can't easily re-create or download again.
