Using a Raspberry Pi as a print server

Hey all,
I got this older HP laser printer that works just fine but it needs to be hooked to a computer to function.

I've moved my work station on a standing desk and I have no more space for the printer. Instead of getting a new networked one, I want to put it in another room and convert it to a network printer. 

The simplest and least expensive way that I found to do this seems to be by plugin it into a Pi (running Linux) and turning the Pie into a print server.

So two questions: has anyone in here done this before? If so what are the hurdles?
Second question: is there an easier way to do it for the same base cost or lower?

Not to answer this asking if you googled it, but at the same time, it appears as though many, many people have done this for years and there appears to be a ton of information out there. So to answer your question has anyone done it, that's a resounding yes and I'm sure some of them are in here. 

 

Looking at some guides it seems pretty simple to setup too with cups. 

 

I would just pull up a guide and try it.
