well I hope you're wrong lol, I'm broke after buying that 3080, even if that's right I think my RM850 can handle that!

the rm850 should handle it BUT you have to actually use at least 2 (or 3 depending on the card) different cables, not 1 pigtail cable with 2 connectors.

Reason is the load can be too much long term and the cable(s) heating up too much (basically melt)

Hello, im upgrading my Asus ROG STRIX 1080 with a ZOTAC Trinity OC 3080 soon!, i was wondering about the power situation i have a 850w PSU, my 1080 is connected by 1 cable a 6+2 the 6 are connected to the GPU and 2 are extra hanging around, when i get my 3080 will i be safe to connect it with the same cable and use the extra 2 to fully power it?

my current 1080 is using 14 pins and my new 3080 uses 16 pins, my current power cable is a 6+2 + 8 so i cant use it?

Even if you could i would be worried about only 850, might want to look into the 1000, the 30s have weird power spikes that might draw too much. i could be wrong tho

i gotta ask, why did you spend so much on the rtx 3080 when that 1080 is still baller, and what might you be asking for the 1080 if you are interested in selling.

i bought the 3080 because my 1080 is dying, started getting freezes then 2 fans stopped working, I'll keep it as a souvenir.

the rm850 should handle it BUT you have to actually use at least 2 (or 3 depending on the card) different cables, not 1 pigtail cable with 2 connectors.

I looked in my PSU box and found a 6+2-pin PCI cable so I guess I will use that one and 8 pins from the pigtail cable to power the GPU which is 16 pins. thank you for the help. 😄
