okay so before i begin, i'll explain a bit of a backstory to why im think i'm getting these high idle temps, a few days ago i hit 100c on my ryzen 7 3700x (w/ stock wraith prism cooler) when trying to get a cinebench multi-core score, but it was only for a minute or two, i've also been told that i shouldn't be worried about damage to the CPU.

but ever since then, it seems like my idle temps have been a bit higher, right now they're idling at around 45-48c, or around 50c-55c under light load (web browsing, youtube, and a game like Minecraft), i'd rather not go through an RMA process if there is no damage to speak of, should i be concerned at all about these temps, or are they normal?

I have thought of upgrading the cooler to something better like a Dark Rock Pro 4 too in order to get better temps

Welcome to the forums!!!

Have you tried to do a repaste of the thermal paste on the CPU??? Be sure to twist and pull when you are removing the cooler as to not pull the CPU right out of the socket (also running the computer beforehand-heating the CPU up, tends to help too).

A Dark Rock Pro 4 would be an ideal choice, between this and the Noctua NH-D15, as they are top-of-the-line air coolers that perform better than some entry AIOs.

There's a chance that it's just the thermal paste. Those idle temps aren't too terrible for an 8C/16T CPU. What matters more is load temperatures.

Welcome to the forum, hope we can help ya.

Could be a mount/paste issue as said, could also be airflow, but 100c isn't normal with the stock cooler. What case do you have, how many fans and where are they?

Master Case Pro 5, 5 fans, 1 rear, 2 front, 2 top, the front are intake, and the back and top are exhaust, only the front and back are controlled with PWM though, my top fans are the stock fans that were in the front of the case when i got it, and the front and rear are 140mm air pressure rgb fans from CoolerMaster
