Budget (including currency): $1500 aud, but ideally a bit less

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Pretty much any game on 1080p. I want to be able to just buy games instead of obsessing over minimum specs with my current MX130 laptop.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I already have keyboard, mouse and a 1080p 144hz monitor. Here's my current plan and justification for each part, but I would greatly appreciate any feedback:

CPU: Intel core 15-10400F 2.9GHz 6-core processor

Seems to be much better value than AMD counterparts... and is around the price point that i want.

CPU Cooler: be quiet! Pure Rock 51.7 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

I have heard very good things about this CPU cooler and the reviews look pretty good. I don't really need anything insane as I don't plan on overclocking much if at all.

Motherboard: ASRock Z590 Phantom Gaming 4/ac ATX LGA1200 Motherboard

Has support for both wi-fi and bluetooth (bluetooth is especially important as I have bluetooth headphones) and while I know I could get a wireless adapter this just looks like a good motherboard.

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2666 CL16 Memory

16GB of RAM seems like the best option nowadays, I'm unsure if I should go for something faster/different for this one though.

Storage: Samsung 860 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive

I want 1TB storage (based on the amount of storage I use on my current laptop) and this seems like a good, trustworthy and reliable M.2 NVME

GPU: 1660 super/1660 ti/2060/5600 XT/5700 (whichever I can get for under $500aud first)

I'm pretty much just going for what I can get, they all seem pretty good so I'll just have to see what I can manage in this market. I've got notifications for like 20 different GPU SKUs on Australian retailers... I'll see what happens with this one

Case: Corsair 275R Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case

Very good reviews, seems like a good case. Has 3 fans included and my friend also generously offered another 2 for me.

PSU: Corsair CXM 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply

I feel as though this should be plentiful for what I need.

Thanks

Maybe something like this?

Tried fitting a 5600x into the budget but it seems like i have to cheap out on quite alot of stuff

You will def want to oc the ram, just set it at 3200mhz and not touch anything else if you dont wanna bother with tuning ram

Intel version

11500 6 core cpu, i guess if the gpu you wanna buy is out of stock or something you can use the igpu

The board is quite low end so i suggest enabling whatever cpu boosting technology it has in the bios and also using throttlestop and yeeting power limits by setting the turbo long and short + pp0 current all to 999999, clamp, lock, then set the sliders all the way to the right, then apply, thats how you yeet your power limits, the cooler should be able to handle ~110w-130w that the cpu is gonna dissipate w power limits unlocked

Thanks! I noticed you changed the motherboard and case to micro atx. As I am a first time builder I'm unsure if it would make it harder to build in a micro atx and if i would miss out of features due to the motherboard being micro atx. Other than that, those RAM and storage looks like a much better deal. Also, with the CPU cooler it looks a fair bit louder eventhough I would only save about $9. Is there any reason that it is worth it?

I've done a bit of research and while at first a 5600x sounded amazing I've found that the 5600x only has a performance improvement of about 5-10% over the i5-10400f, which makes it very hard to justify the cost of it and the corners cut to meet my budget with it (such as the 500gb of storage, which isn't really enough for me).

With the intel build I don't need the igpu to use until I get a gpu as I plan on getting the gpu first and then buying the rest since there's no real advantage to using the igpu of the 11500 igpu instead of my laptop which would perform marginally better.

Thanks a bunch for the feedback!

You'll just lose a few pci-e slots going with m-atx, that's about it. The board itself has much better wifi than the one you picked.
