Help deciding on upgrade.

I currently have an old 1 TB HDD and a Samsung SSD QVO 1TB, low a behold neither is enough space for my steam games. My original plan was to purchase a 6-10TB hard drive (for games), then buy an SSD or NVME and use it as a cache to help speed up the HDD because I've gone SSD and now don't know if I can ever go back. So my question is, is this viable or is it better to bite the bullet and buy a large SSD?
