Help to install win 8

Go to solution Solved by Sheldon_King,

Also, if I run the setup.exe it says This app can't run on your PC. Works on my win 7 laptop though.

Okay, just to be sure, you are using the complete unextracted .iso file to create your boot disk, correct?  If so, I would suggest for ease of trouble shooting you download YUMI (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/) and use it to create your usb key. (start YUMI with your usb key in a usb port. Select your USB key as the destination, and select format the key (to get rid of any conflicting files), then go to the installer selection and scroll all the way down, windows vista/7/8 should be next to the last in the second to last set of options. Then select your .iso file and hit create. Wait a while for it to finish, then boot from it. If it does not work, then report back and we can start diagnosing the issue farther).

Okay so I got win 8 trial on the PC and it expired. Download win 8 onto my USB drive and I had the iso and the files in the iso into raw format. Put USB in PC, select to boot from Verbatim Go the USB key, but It ignores it and goes to win 8 like normally. Help.

It sounds like you just put the iso on the flshkey and tried to boot. If so, you need to get a program like YUMI to make a bootable flashkey for windows 8. You will need the program, the flashkey, and the .iso file for windows 8.

Well I'm using a program now (Rufus) and we will see how it goes... but what I did was put the .iso onto the flash drive and use PowerIso to extract the files from it and put them also on flash drive.

As far as I know that will not work. You need something that will put the iso on th eflashkey and install a boot loader also.    I am not familiar with Rufus, but let us know how it goes.

Appears to be working. Used YUMI. Thanks, don't know why Rufus wasn't working. It does the exact same thing except adding the GUI. Maybe my PC was too old and the GUI helped? It's one of the Vista days. Anyways, thanks, my mom won't kill me now :D

I highly doubt that it would be the age of the laptop causing the issues. It could just be an issue with the version of Rufus you downloaded, or maybe Rufus does not like your BIOS.  Either way, you should not have much issue with it, as I have installed 7 into Pentium IV laptops using YUMI and never ran into an issue aside from lack of RAM.
