Hello all,

Just wondering if anybody knows anything about ram compatibility with Ryzen 5000 CPUS? Not what is fastest, but what is unstable.

I've recently been having a problem with random crashes/restarts. Sometimes with the blue screen, sometimes not. It's not frequent or obvious to replicate, maybe once a day this week while running a game. Happened in three different games after varying times which is unhelpful. This has only started since swapping my i7-8086k to a Ryzen 7 5800x and Aorus Pro B550 board. First off I tried reinstalling windows to make sure there wasn't old drivers, since suspecting the CPU change I've been looking into that trying suggestions such as setting a voltage (as opposed to auto), turning off a precision boost option. Still crashed.

I read that Ram can be a cause, I had no issue on intel but downloaded MemTest anyway, by half way through pass two of the test I had 1800 errors reported (corsair dominator platinum 3000mhz). I then tried some cheap memory from another PC in my system and had no errors. However, I put the Corsair ram in the other PC to test it and also had no errors. XMP enabled in both.

So I'm not sure if that's the cause of the crashes, I'm going to leave the cheap ram in for a week and see if it stops, but the fact that my Corsair ram passes the test in another PC makes me think there is a compatibility issue causing errors.

Does this make sense to anyone and if I'm correct, what memory will be stable? Was thinking Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL if I have to buy more.

Also temperatures aren't the issue. Higher than they used to be (thinking my AIO is wearing out) but never over 80'C so shouldn't be causing a crash.

i use corsair vengeance rgb pro 3200mhz runs fine with my 5800x i think your memory is the problem

The memory should be stable at XMP. RMA it if it causes errors during testing.
I'm running the same 3000MHZ Dominator Platinum 4x8 kit that's overclocked to 3800MHz with 1900FCLK with a 5800X and it works great.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

1) Put in your "unstable" memory kit and run it at default speeds (backup your BIOS to a profile and completely reset to default). It might be at 2133 or 2400,... speeds. DO NOT enable XMP/DOCP. That way it will default to standard speed and timings.

2) run memtest86+ and see if it is running with errors. If there are errors at that speed, your memory is damaged and you might have to go through RMA process. If it works, continue to 3.

3) Enable XMP/DOCP and reduce the frequency to 2400 MHz. Run memtest86+ again, but this time it will be with the XMP timings. If it passes, good, increase speed. If it doesn't work, RMA it is.

is the b550 motherboard brand new?

Might be a bios error

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Forgot to add, I updated the Bios from F10 to F13g (the latest if that's the wrong name) after the crashing started. Motherboard is new. CPU is new but from an eBay seller so hopefully that's not the issue. Memory I've had for years so long past it's warranty.

Will continue to investigate with XMP off. Hard to check if it's causing the crashes though since they appear random.

FWIW, 3000MHz is way too slow for a 5800X anyways. You can see if you can OC it higher like @Morgan MLGman, though I wouldn't exactly consider his results typical. Otherwise, just get a kit of 3600MHz CL16. You're losing a ton of performance as is, though.

there is a pretty big chance that it is the ram
