Patterned blinking modem/desktop ethernet

i been having trouble with my Ethernet connection that i am not entirely sure what exactly the problem is.

Story goes like this

I am in my room with my computer. I have a really long Ethernet cable connecting the modem directly to my Computer which is 20 meters away by cable length, at first i get a "No Network" it was just an easy step of disabling and enabling my network device but later on it didn't help anymore so i use a router, thinking that the wire is too long for the signal to reach to my computer, used a meter long Ethernet cable to my computer from the router and then the disabling and enabling the network device came back but at least i have internet. then days later it stopped working again, feeling sure that it's because of my Ethernet cable being too long i cut off 5 meters off and it stopped being a pest but now there is a new problem. Both Router and the Ethernet jack on the I/O makes a pattern of blinking for 5 seconds then turns off for 3 seconds.

resetting the router fixes the problem but i'm sure it will come back to ruin my game!

what did i do wrong? @_____@

Ethernet cable shouldn't be bad at 20m, have you tried reinstalling your network drivers? Or replaced the cable?

yes and no since i don't have a 15 meter long Ethernet cable to replace it @___@

but what reason could the Ethernet cable make such a pattern to the router?

It could possibly be the router.
