I need a laptop for university, informatic engineering. I need to run smoothly a virtual machine (virtual box) in order to use ubuntu (I don't want a dual boot), and others programs (but they are not really havy, like "deeds" and "aldec"). which specs should have a laptop for my  needs? I will be using it only for university.

i prefer not to spend more than 500€..

Isn't it easy then? Buy the best specs for €500,-

the problem is that very often in Italy for 500€ you can afford max an i3 with integrated graphics and 4-6- rarely 8 gigs of ram, and I wanted to know if I need more than these specs or they are enough

If you don't want to spend more you won't get more specs. It is do-able but I won't be very fast when running programs that require a lot of specs.

ok i'll be more specific: is an i3 enough to run Smoothly ubuntu on virtual box?

I can smoothly run Ubuntu 13.10 from my i3 3217u laptop using a VM. make sure vt-x is enables as in my BIOS it's disabled by default.

I don't do anything intensive though.

That's what I used mine for, needed a few open source IDEs.
