Hey guys,
I am new to the forum and haven't been super up to date on computers and I wanted to ask for some help going over my build. I read the before you post and jotted down the information below.

I have a link to the parts I have currently selected here

Budget and location:

  • Around $1000 US. It's not the end of the world to go over but I would like to keep it close.

Aim:

  • 3d work such as blender as well as adobe creative suite and video editing.

Monitors:

  • I currently have 2 1080p monitors that I plan on upgrading later but does not need to factor in now.

Peripherals:

  • I have an older set of peripherals, mouse (logitech g502 proteus core) and keyboard (microsoft sidewinder x4). Those will be upgraded whenever they give out on me and I have windows 10 already.

Why are you upgrading?

  • I am currently working on an i7-4790k that I have had pretty much since launch. It was fine for gaming and video editing but not as good for blender and it gets to the point where the ram and cpu can't keep up so it crashes. If it wasn't so old I would have considered just adding more ram so that blender wouldn't crash but after finding out the windows 11 minimum spec I decided against putting more money into the current set up.

Some extra info:

  • It doesn't have to be an intel build, I just chose that because I thought it might be best for blender after having seen a couple of performance tests.
  • The case doesn't have to be that one, I just picked it for good airflow and simple design.
  • I don't care for rgb, I would prefer to keep it to a minimum or have the option to turn it off.

I greatly appreciate any help I can get.

Wow thank you so much. Yeah those ryzen processors are definitely the way to go, the ryzen 7 5800x is just shy of the i7 performance in blender but decisively wins in all other programs and that ryzen 9 5900x build looks very enticing. Another question, It says that it might need a bios upgrade before hand with a different cpu. Would I need to do that because I do not have another Cpu.

there's BIOS flashback so you'll just need a thumbdrive with the bios file in it.

Why didnt you go for a b550 tomahawk?

Are there any differences between b550 tomahawk and b550 a pro?

Otherwise really good pcpartpicker lists

Tomahawk is $20 more atm. A Pro has great VRMS while the tomahawk has outstanding ones. Like A vs S tier.

I will definitely look into that at time of purchase if it’s just $20 then it’s not that bad and if it helps over clock then it would be considered worth it. I haven’t done much cpu overclocking recently but I did overclock my i7-4790k and txt 2070 and I would be interested in over clocking the Ryzen 9. Would you guys say it’s any harder now or would you recommend any oc guides.

If you wanna oc best use pbo and curve optimizer for optimum volts

Guys I think this is going to be the finalized build. I just ended up needing the pc built sooner than I expected and while the ryzen 9 is sweet I'm not too sad about the performance difference but I will try and get a nice overclock.

Tbh 10900f or 10850k is the same price or actually cheaper than a 5800x whilst having 10 cores and preserving single core performance

Heres an intel version

10850k 10c, ocable but to get the most out of it you habe to dynamic oc which involves alot of trial and error, just lock to freq to 4.7-4.9 with 1.2v or lower in the bios for efficiency

Swapped paste for gc extreme

Decent z490 board

Chose cheaper ram

Chose cheaper case

Chose a 750w instead of a 650w

The rtx 2070s and d15s are placeholders

Im sorry to go off your suggestion for a second but does the tomahawk not have the 2x8 pin eps connector requirement because then I could use my same power supply.

Even if there is an extra 8 pin connector it is not neccesary unless you are extreme overclocking (6ghz etc)

Ohhh, that’s great! That means I can save a bunch of money and go for the upgrade anyways. After speaking to a friend he convinced me to make a couple changes and this is what I got now.

Arctic silver 5 isnt that good anymore, prob performs similarly to arctic mx4 or mx5, id get gc extreme or nth2 instead

Good ram but there are cheaper options available

Oh and i suggest you get a better psu like msi mpg, corsair rm, or enermax revolution d.f

Otherwise good build
