Joined the forums since I'm trying to get a new desktop computer. My current maybe 10yr old computer somehow by some miracle still runs, largely in part to a 32 inch shop fan and another fan on the other side that I think is cooling the cpu through the motherboard. It has water cooling, but I don't believe that particular part is still functioning properly. Needless to say, I'd like to be done with it. The option to take it apart is possible, but given the water cooling unit is the wrong one to begin with (due to having a friend helping out that didn't actually know to check for that when buying it and just made it work), I'm not entirely sure I could get it running again if I did. Its an AMD first gen 8 core bulldozer that runs super hot.

Currently trying to find reputable seller of prebuilt computers that is known for checking their work over before sending it. Large companies are a possibility but tech videos have shown me that things usually aren't done completely right the first time. It makes sense, at least to me, given that modern lean manufacturing focuses on controlling the process for quality rather then checking the final product. Unfortunately, I don't see a company controlling the human element involved in that process that requires repeated skill and attention to 100% unyielding completion. So I'm thinking I definitely need a builder who puts those checks in place or to do it myself. That is another ballgame though, of understanding what parts to pick. I am finding it hard to build at least a general picture of what is available on the market so as to give myself choices with weighted pros and cons of what I could buy.

Just thought I'd introduce myself and tell people what I was doing while I lurk for information and try to research.

+1 Friendly lurker
