OS for selfbuilt NAS

Hello Together,

I want to build a NAS that can also virtualize a Windows Client.

Since the NAS is for a public organization it should costs as less as possible.

Functions I need:

Diffrent File Shares for diffrent sectors

Access from outside the network

Ability to virtualize a Windows 10 client

RAID 5 support or similiar

My question is now what OS I should use.

I only have experience with Synology OS at the moment.

So I could install XPenology. Other Options would be Unraid or FreeNAS.

What could you recommend for my requirements?

Thank you guys!

Windows 10 ltsc is another option.

I mean I use whatever is available and this is a very simple nas setup so any flavour of linux, windows (server) or the os's you mentioned will work. Esxi is also another virtualization option too.
