what should i upgrade ram or storage(ssd)

i have an old hp workstation that have i5 2400 and 4g ddr3 and 1tb hdd

 

which should and why

SSD for sure, and maybe RAM later. 

 

SSD is so much faster and snappier than HDD, that's a no brainer. 
Even if you upgrade to 16GB RAM your system will still feel sluggish because of that HDD.

If for gaming you definitely need a GPU.

Unless your game is borderline playable, adding more RAM won't magically make it playable.

well i was getting a gtx1650 super and the whole mining, and slilicon shortage thing came out

That's good, you can buy RAM together with the GPU when the time come but for now SSD is the best option.

No point of adding any SSD, because you will add SATA SSD (not PCIe) on gen2 SATA (not SATA gen3, which is also obsolete as a bus) and spend at least 1/3 cost of you rig.

The best thing is to buy PCIe to M.2 adapter ( $6) and put a "real" PCIe NVme SSD. But again, it will be at least 50% of the cost of your PC.

My best advice -sell it, add the same amount on top and buy anything used on something like Intel Skylake or later.

i was saving up to buy a good rig and then the 30series came out i was happy until everything was 4x the msrp so i thought to upgrade this rig for now until prices go back to normal(which linus said it could potentially years or less)

Right, but while you're waiting, you can just spend the same amount and have something that is still usable / playable. As I'm talking about buying used rig or old gen parts, that are cheap, not in definite and darn cheap. Intel i7700K (it got graphics on board) is $50, mb - same $50. Another 50 for used tower with PSU. 8 GB ram -ddr3 - 23$

yes your right the problem is i live in Egypt which means shipping will actually cost more than the product itself.
